You do not need to assign the Student Book for students to have access to preview the book. By default, students receive a read-only, preview copy of the Student Book and Image Gallery in the My Course area of their student dashboards. The read-only copy allows them to use the read aloud. If you want students to complete activities and have access to the markup tools (highlighting, underlining, notes), then you must assign the student book chapter.
